The Full Case Index

Every weapon case Valve ever shipped — all 42 of them, from the August 2013 originals to the newest drop. No souvenirs, no capsules, no picking winners: this is the whole case market compressed into one number.

The index, live

One point per day: the sum of all 42 Steam Market median prices, divided by 42. One caveat comes free with total-market coverage: the index can only start the day its youngest member began trading — every time Valve ships a new case, a full-market index restarts its clock. For deep history, the OG Cases basket reaches back to 2016.

Eleven years of releases, six distinct eras. The 2013–2014 cohort (CS:GO Weapon Cases, eSports cases, the operation crates) are the museum pieces; the 2015–2017 generation carries the legendary knife pools; the 2018–2021 wave includes the supply-heavy giants like Dreams & Nightmares; and the modern drops — Recoil, Revolution, Kilowatt, Gallery, Fever — are still working through their glut phase.

What this index is good for

It's the benchmark. Any single case, any curated basket, any strategy you run — this line is what it has to beat, the same way equity funds measure themselves against the S&P 500. When the whole market rallies on a patch note or bleeds through a correction, this is the cleanest picture of how much was market and how much was your picks.

One honest mechanical note: an equal-count average of prices behaves like the Dow, not the S&P — the expensive veterans dominate it. A three-figure CS:GO Weapon Case moves this index more than a sub-dollar Recoil Case ever can. That's a feature for benchmarking (the old cases are most of the market's value) but it means the index mostly breathes with the 2013–2016 cohort.

How to hold it

Nobody needs to buy 42 line items by hand — that's several hours of tab-juggling per week, and precisely the kind of work automation exists to absorb. A cs2stack checklist takes the full list with a weekly budget and a per-case price cap, splits every run equally across all 42, and skips whatever's overpriced that day. Total-market exposure, zero screen time — or start narrower with the Future $10 basket and graduate to the index later.
